PORTLAND, Oregon (LifeSiteNews) — An Oregon mother is suing Portland Public Schools (PPS) for banning her from her children’s elementary school for protesting its promotion of LGBT “pride.”

The Oregonian reports that Allison Roberts, who has two children at Meriwether Lewis Elementary School, where she took issue with benches painted with “Intersex-Inclusive Progress Pride” rainbow designs, plus an assignment (for which she was given no advance notice) in which one of her kids was tasked with filling out an “identity flower” exercise including gender.

After a meeting with school officials to discuss her concerns, she began distributing letters about the situation outside the school, leading to a “heated exchange” with one parent that quickly led to a one-year trespass order keeping her off the grounds ostensibly for “threatening and intimidating members of the school community” with “harmful, unlawful and/or disruptive behavior.” As a result, Roberts was forced to miss one of her children’s graduations from elementary school.

Now, she is suing to reverse the trespass order and secure her rights to engage in free speech about her children’s education.

“Parents have a constitutional right to speak out about their children’s education – especially when they are asking for transparency about what their children are being taught,” said Timothy Snowball of the Liberty Justice Center, which is representing Roberts. “Government officials cannot silence a parent simply because they dislike her views.”

“One of the most painful parts of this experience has been missing the milestones every parent hopes to share with their children,” added Roberts herself. “Because of the trespass order, I have been excluded from elementary school events, missing my son’s graduation and losing irreplaceable moments with both of my children. It has been heartbreaking. These are memories our family can never get back.”

PPS maintains a “Transgender, Nonbinary & Gender Expansive Policy,” which declares its objective to be a “safe and welcoming environment for all students and staff, free of transphobia and homophobia,” requiring an “unwavering commitment to a systematic shift in paradigms to increase the understanding of sexual and gender diversity.”

American institutions of higher education have long been recognized as heavily dominated by left-wing bias and historical revisionism, conditioning students to reject religion, traditional morality, and free markets, and to view America as a uniquely malignant force in the world, a society systemically rigged against the poor and minority groups, with identity-based grievances forming the foundation of so-called “social justice” and “intersectional” approaches to education.

LGBT groups arguably have the highest standing in the current social justice hierarchy. The indoctrination of children with left-wing ideology on sexuality, race, and other agenda items has long been a major concern in American schools and libraries, from book shelves to drag events to classroom materials to even “transitioning” troubled children without parental input. Many schools have also displayed hostility to the rights and employment of individual teachers who refuse to go along with such agendas. Across the nation, controversy has also erupted in recent years over schools and libraries adopting books that expose sexual themes and activity to children, often in graphic detail and with pornographic imagery depicting specific sexual acts.

In response, the Trump administration has issued executive orders to deny federal funds to educational entities that indoctrinate students through DEI programs, among other executive actions to combat so-called “woke ideology” in education.
